The Tube (Piccadilly line) leaves all terminals very regularly and is only £3.10 for a single journey with an Oyster card (see public transport) for a single trip to Zone 1, where you can change to any other line to reach your final destination. It takes around 1 hour to reach central London.
The Heathrow Express to Paddington station is very fast (10-15 mins), but also very expensive at £21.50 for a one-way ticket (if bought online, £26.50 at the station). Bear in mind that you will most likely be taking the Tube to reach your destination once you arrive at Paddington!
